<p>COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY! Thank you to all of our families for supporting our first Student Initiated and Run Community Service Day! Several organizations benefited from East School’s generosity and elbow grease. The New Canaan Food Bank is very appreciative of our Souper Canned Food Drive. Norwalk Hospital is thrilled with all the books and letters. A local Norwalk aid group was overwhelmed by the Birthday Bags, and Blackum School in Bridgeport is delighted with the school supplies. In addition, our students sent truly beautiful valentine wishes to service men and women in veteran’s hospitals. Our 4<sup>th</sup> graders are very pleased with their accomplishments.</p>

<p>The East School Nominating Committee has begun its search to fill the PTC Executive Board, Standing Committee Chairs and all Committee Coordinators for the 2012-2013 school year.  Consider nominating yourself or others and <strong><em>make a difference in our school</em></strong>!</p>
<p>Attached you will find a summary of each volunteer position.  After reading the job descriptions, please fill out the ballot form with your name or the name of someone you would like to nominate next to a position.  If you are interested in more than one position, please rank your interests accordingly.  If there is information about your background that would be helpful to the nominating committee, please provide the details in the indicated area.</p>
<p>Your feedback will ensure that those who want to take an active role with the PTC will not be overlooked and that the best candidates are presented.</p>
<p>Please note the entire ballot does not have to be filled out: one or two suggestions are most welcome. Remember, there are two ways to be nominated for a position: self-nominate or nominate a person or persons with interests or abilities qualifying them for a position.</p>

Both treasurers create annual budget and attend all fundraising events to handle money. Some accounting experience and familiarity with Quickbooks are very helpful. Act as a liaison with Art teachers to hang art throughout the year as needed. Required to be here the last week of summer vacation. <p>The 4th Grade invites you to attend PASTA NIGHT at East School. This is the 4th Grade’s biggest fundraiser with all proceeds going to the 4th Grade Field Trip.</p>

The Galley @ East School</p>
<p>Dinner will be served by Fourth Grade Students. The menu includes pasta with or without sauce, meatballs, salad, bread and water. Italian ices and soft drinks will be available for purchase. The students will also be selling home-baked desserts.</p>
<p>Seatings are organized by teacher. Fourth graders will eat before their assigned shift and need a reservation/payment.</p>

<li>Advance reservations only – tickets will not be sold at the door.</li>
<li>Reservations for 4th grade families open Monday, January 30th – deadline is February 8th to guarantee your spot before seating is opened to all grades.</li>
<li>Reservations for K-3rd grade families open Thursday, February 9th (seatings on a first come/first serve basis).</li>
<li>Reservations are $10 per person &#8211; include 4th grader with your reservation.</li>

<p style="text-align: left;"> New Canaan, CT – Six years since its inception, New Canaan Public School’s Tech Night is once again bringing together students and technology.  Students from grades 2-12 created more than 50 extracurricular projects outside and inside of the classroom showing exceptional uses of technology. Teachers K-12 will also be showcasing innovative uses of technology in their classrooms.  This night provides students and educators alike an opportunity to showcase and witness how technology enhances and encourages learning.  Attendees also have the opportunity to view a presentation in the High School Planetarium.<strong><br />
</strong>Every student formally applies by submitting his or her idea for a project, describing its use of technology and supplying reasons for sharing this idea.  A committee of faculty and staff review each application and provide support to each student—granting them the opportunity to teach and inspire with their ideas and creations.  Some of this year’s submissions include:<strong></strong></p>

<li>“The Magic of Green Screen”</li>
<li>“The Morse Code Transcriber”</li>
<li>“Papertronics”</li>
<li>And many more presentations!</li>
