Volunteer

Please consider volunteering at East School this year!  There are many ways to get involved depending on your interests and availability.   Please see the list below for some of our most immediate needs, or contact Heather Watchmaker at hwatchmaker@gmail.com for any additional information on volunteer opportunities.

Library:  Currently, we have an opening Tuesday morning (A week) and Wednesday mid-day.   Contact Marie Howe at ma_howe@yahoo.com or Taylor Benevento at tmbenevento@optonline.net for more information or to volunteer.

Bingo night and Pasta night are coming to East school on the night of February 24th.  If you would like to volunteer please contact Heather at hwatchmaker@gmail.com for more details.

The East School Parent Social is on April 27th, and the event chairs needs help in many areas including set up, flowers, decorations, DJ’s coordination, raffle, and online ticket sales.  A co-chair for the silent auction is also needed.  To volunteer for one of these positions please contact Deena Youngs at deenayoungs@yahoo.com or Amy bennett at amyc_bennett@yahoo.com

Hospitality is looking for volunteers to make/bring something to an upcoming PTC meeting (drink, fruit, baked good) on either 3/13/12 or 4/17/12.  Please contact Courtney Langford at cdlangford@optonline.net to help her fill these needs.

Teachers Assistants needed to work in the office helping to prepare materials for class.  Shifts are 2 hours (time is flexible too!) and follow the A/B week schedule.  Please contact Jane Forte at janeforte@aol.com if you are interested in signing up.

GENERAL VOLUNTEER INFORMATION:

REGULAR VOLUNTEERS

Regular volunteers have a function which continues throughout the school year. A day and time is generally assigned upfront and the responsibilities remain the same. Should you not be able to attend one of the regular days assigned you would be responsible for finding a replacement. This is a good way for your child to see you in the school on a regular basis. Types of regular volunteer opportunities include Lunchroom Assistant, School Office Assistant and Library Monitor.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES VOLUNTEERS

Special activities volunteers assist with one of the many special events that the school has. The event is scheduled well in advance and may take some planning by its’ volunteers prior to its start date. Types of special volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to, Field Day, Art Show, Community Service Day, Math Night and Science Fair. This is a good way to get involved in the school activities for those who have a finite, non-flexible amount of time to donate to the school.

ROOM PARENT/SPECIAL COORDINATORS

Throughout the year various classes and/or special(s) have projects, celebrations, gatherings and/or some other form of communication that needs to be distributed to parents. Room Parents and/or Special Coordinators are responsible for organizing and/or managing the process of distributing such information in a timely manner. In addition, Room Parents are requited to attend PTC meetings and recruit volunteers for the Fall Fair. This is a good way to get involved in your child’s educational process when you have a limited but flexible amount of time to donate.

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEES

Throughout the year, East School holds various fundraising functions organized by the PTC. These activities include the Fall Fair, Family Photo Day, Bingo Night, Talent Show, Parent Social and Book Fair. All functions raise funds for the PTC which are then appropriated towards enhancing your child’s education. Although the time commitment is limited to a defined period, these activities do take quite a bit of planning and organizing up front.

FOURTH GRADE ACTIVITIES

The fourth grade activities raise monies to (a) pay for their yearbooks; (b) pay for their final field trip to the Pequot Museum; and, (c) pay for the framing of their class picture as a school gift. This is a good way to get involved before your child heads off to Middle School. Fourth grade activities include T-Shirts, KidsArt, Conference Babysitting and Pasta Night. The time commitment is defined by the type of fundraising activity; some pre-planning may or may not be needed.
