What a week! Read on …
We enjoyed a warm but wonderful Field Day last Tuesday thanks to Mr. Sangalli and so many parent volunteers. From 3-legged races to popsicles, it was a fun-filled day for all!
Congratulations to all of our fourth graders! They celebrated a wonderful Fare Thee Well with parents and invited guests this past Friday and treated us to a beautiful selection of songs to mark the celebration. Thanks to Mr. Zhou and Mrs. Hastings for their hours of rehearsal with our students to make this a very special morning. And thank you to our PTC volunteers who made the afternoon Fourth Grade Celebration a memorable time of fun with friends for our fourth graders.
And there is more to come this week for all students K-4! Please remind your child to wear sneakers on Monday for our student Diabetes – CF Walk!
Summer Learning on the Go!
Whether your summer plans include far-away vacations or some time with family close to home, we encourage you to keep your child thinking over the summer months – reading, writing, and math! To that end, our end-year assemblies this year will feature a very special guest – the Children’s Librarian from the New Canaan Library – who will join our literacy specialists in encouraging students to visit libraries and bookstores wherever their summer travels take them! Resources will also be linked through the East School website (http://www.ncps-k12.org/Domain/8), including book lists, websites and apps for math and reading practice, game suggestions that promote skills and logical thinking, and more. Please set time aside each week this summer for your child to use these resources.
We encourage you to read as a family as well this summer – read-alouds are a terrific way to expose children to rich vocabulary and foster strong comprehension skills as you talk together about the characters, events, and messages in a book. I’d love to see photos of your child at libraries and bookstores this summer so please feel free to send them along to us here at East! We would love to receive the mail!
(Grade 4 students should check the district website for Summer Resources from Saxe for students entering grade 5.)
This week we congratulate and honor two members of the East School community who will retire at the end of this school year – Fourth Grade Teacher, Ms. Anne Gesualdi, and Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Mary Ann Stone. These remarkable educators have given so much of their lives to East School over the years and have touched the lives of countless families. We will honor them this week as a school and we wish them all the best as they take on new adventures ahead!
A few reminders …

Thank you! Thank you!
It has been a true pleasure and privilege to be alongside our staff as they partnered with you to foster your child’s learning and growth this year. As this school year comes to a close, I know that I am fortunate to have had so much support from all of you. East is a very special place and I am so happy to be a part of it with you. Thank you! I wish you a fantastic summer ahead and will see you back at East in the fall!
